It all began very unexpectedly. We did not set out to start a nonprofit organization...we just wanted to help our community. Stephen, Justin, and Joe wanted to do whatever we could to provide some help and hope to our community of Conway, SC. Just like many, many others here in Conway, we did what we could to save our neighbors’ belongings and homes. While doing so, we, along with an enormous amount of generous donors (from Conway and abroad), were able to turn a $200 gift card into enough money to begin helping our community and provide some hope! Being able to do that, as well as seeing there was a lot more that could and needed to be done, inspired us to make it official by making Conway Cares a legitimate, nonprofit organization that will strive to do even more positive work that will give our community “...a little bit of help, but a lot of hope!”
WHAT WE'VE DONE THUS FAR
Making A Difference
PROVIDED MEALS DURING FLOODING
AFTER HURRICANE FLORENCE
With our organization’s mission always in mind, as well as the money we were able to raise on from the gift card on Facebook, Conway Cares was able to provide over 500 hot meals that we served and delivered from St. Paul’s. Mr. Russell and Big D's BBQ Trough gave us a great price on their delicious bbq, green beans, coleslaw, and rolls. Mr. Eddie from Pickled Cucumber donated 100 pieces of his famous country fried chicken breasts. Macaroni and cheese was made by Joe Mogus and his wife, Mallory. We also provided water bottles, Cokes, Diet Cokes, Sprites, and Capri Suns. At the end of the event, we donated all of the leftovers to Shepherd's Table of Conway, SC.
RESTOCKING FRIDGES & CUPBOARDS
At Conway Cares, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing this issue. With the leftover funds, Conway Cares was also able to provide 20 deserving, and suddenly needy, families in our community with $100 Walmart gift cards that prohibited the purchasing of anything alcohol, tobacco, or firearms related. These gift cards were given to families of students who attend Conway Elementary, South Conway Elementary, as well as other community families who do not have school-aged children. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to lend your support.
